The first part will cover the first few quests, as well as a few side quests that may be benificial to you when starting a fresh character. This guide may include spoilers, I will try to keep them to a minimum.

Anyway check back later,

Update:
Because I have been busy at work and with other commitments I've had to delay the release of the guide, It wont't be up this weekend because I'm going away so check back in 2 weeks, sorry guys.

Well heres the first part of my guide, sorry for the delay guys.

Baby Steps
This is just a training quest so you can learn how to move around, interact with your environment and teaches you how to pick up objects. When you read your “You’re Special” book, I recommend maxing intelligence as it gives you an extra 10 skill points every level.

Growing Up Fast
At the party be sure to talk to everyone, eventually you will get into a fight with Butch the bully, Officer Gomez will break up the fight before it becomes serious. Eventually the intercom will ring and your dad will tell you to head down to the Reactor Level, you will receive a BB gun so remember to practice shooting when you get the chance.

Future Imperfect
When your first gain control of your character when you’re 16 be sure to pick up the medicine bobble head in your dads office, it will be on his desk next to the computer. When you exit the Med-Lab you will see an altercation between The Tunnel Snakes and Amata, Talk to Wally Mack and select the “You have a problem with Amata?” option, this will get the matter sorted rather quickly. Enter the class room and take the exam, don’t worry about you answers your teacher will let you pick your Tagged skill before you leave.

Escape
Amata will wake you up in hysterics, she will tell you that your father has escaped and that you need to leave or they will kill you. pick up the baseball bat, BB gun and ammunition and the medical items in front of you. Try to use the bat for most of you escape as you’ll want to keep pistol ammo for later on. Follow your compass and help Butch if you feel inclined. When you get to the Security office, it is rather easy to sneak kill Officer Mack so do so. There are some useful items in the lockers in the office including armour, pistols and ammunition. If you have trouble picking the lock to the Overseer’s office, you can find a key in his dresser in his room. Once in the office, collect any items you want from the lockers on the right, as well as the password to his computer. Use his computer to open the secret passage, go down and follow it to the vault entrance. Opening the door will alert 2 guards to your position so be ready for them, when ready exit through the door and up to the gate. You will have one last chance to change any of the decisions you made up to this point, like your appearance, name and tag skills.

Following in His Footsteps
When you exit you will gain 200exp and level up to level 2, I recommend focusing on maxing Medicine, Repair and Small guns, these skills can come in handy through out your time in the Wasteland
Also some good perks to pick up early are Swift learner and Educated, the former adds an additional 10% to all exp gain per rank and the latter adds 3 additional skill points per level and can be picked up at level 3
From here you can head into Springvale, there are some useful items hidden around like 3 Frag Grenades in the mailbox on the left side of the street and a pistol and assorted chems in a safe with an easy lock in one of the burnt out houses.

If you head north up the road and go into the house on the left you will meet a girl asking if Moriarty sent you, here you can pick up 300-400 Caps depending on if you win the speech challenge or not, if you fail you can kill her afterwards for the 100 extra caps.

Make your way to Megaton by following the marker on your compass
Step inside and head up to Moriarty’s Saloon, talk to Moriarty (the same Moriarty mentioned by the girl near Springvale). He knows your father and will tell you where he has gone if you win a speech challenge or are ok with parting with 100 of your caps.

Before leaving Megaton you can do the Power of The Atom quest, on completion of this quest you will receive the key and deed to a house (this will be covered in the side quest thread). Also Offload any unwanted items at The Craterside Supple, you can also get the Wasteland Survival Guide quest from the shop owner Moira Brown.

After exiting Megaton follow the arrow on your compass, you will come across Super-Duper Mart, outside of this shopping centre you may come across a few different random events, including:
A Dead Chinese Commando, that carry’s a sword, pistol and a couple of stimpaks.
Some mercenaries from Talon Company hired to kill you (if you saved Megaton)
And rare event where one of the Raiders Carry’s an Alien Blaster or Firelance
The Super-Duper Mart is part of the Wasteland Survival Guide quest, so head on in if you picked up the quest in Megaton, it is also a delivery location for Nuka-Cola Quantum which are limited edition bottles of Nuka-Cola needed for the Nuka-Cola Challenge achievement and quest.

Head east of the Super-Duper Mart towards the large building behind the overpass, there appears to be a glitch within the game that causes 2 Super Mutants to spawn late, so before you cross the river lay down some mines on the east side of the building, near the ramp and tree, this will help prevent a messy fight between Raiders, Super Mutants and yourself. If you don’t have any mines, once the mutants have spawned back off and let them fight the raiders, you can then clean up afterwards and pick up a mini-gun and assorted other items, don’t forget to look in the ammunition box(one will have an easy lock) and Med-kit near the tire pile the raiders have set up.

At this point do not follow the map marker, instead head North up the hill and then east along the road. You’ll come across a truck with some ammunition and frag grenades. A lone Talon Company Merc will be nearby with a levelled robot, so watch out. At the end of the road is a Super Mutant camp, which is best left alone if you don’t have the weapons or aren’t strong enough to defeat them. Head north up the hill again and east along the road, a raider will come at you from the right so be prepared, continue along the road. Turn right when you see a fenced car park and you should see a Friendship Station to the south-east. There will be a small Raider camp above the station, they will most likely be equip with Hunting rifles, a Missile Launcher, pipes and pistols. They may also have assault rifles depending on your level. Collect any items you want from the camp and then enter the station.

That station will have a few ghouls, but nothing too troubling. Collect the Nuka-Cola Quantum on the right once you have killed the ghouls. You can now follow your compass. Following the compass head into the tunnel and take care of 2 ghouls in a maintenance area and continue on. You will see a symbol on the left-hand wall, and another one just round the corner of it, follow them and then head further down the tunnel. There will be a couple radrouches and a super mutant who can be killed easily with a sneak shot from a hunting rifle. Head up the stairs and follow the corridor to the left and exit to Chevy Chase.

Walk up the stairs and go to the left, you will be attacked by 2 super mutants, but don’t worry The Brotherhood Of Steal will intervene and help out, talk to Sentinel Lyons, she will tell you that they are heading to the Galaxy News Radio building to help fight a super mutant assault. Stick close and don’t run ahead as there are quite a few super mutants ahead, let the Brotherhood fight them off and you should have no trouble getting to GNR. Be sure to pick up the Fat Man off the dead Brotherhood soldier in the fountain, it will be very useful against the Super Mutant Behemoth that will blast his way in. Once all the mutants are head go and speak to the intercom next to the door and the door will be unlocked, head inside and go on up to speak to Three Dog. He’ll give you a speech about the “Good Fight” and ask you to help him out in exchange for information about your fathers whereabouts, you can either do the quest or win a speech challenge. This will complete the Following In The Footsteps quest.

That ends part one of my guide, thanks for reading it and part two will be up in a couple of weeks.
